SAFETY WARNINGS & GUIDELINES
Your Safety Is Our Priority. At Stainless Swim, we love helping Texans cool down in style, and we want you to enjoy your StainlessSwim pool safely.
YOU MUST READ THIS SAFETY DISCLOSURE CAREFULLY. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO USERS.
Drowning Prevention
As with any swimming pool, your StainlessSwim stock-tank pool presents an inherent drowning risk—especially for children. Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 1 to 4. Children and adults can drown even in shallow (6”) water. To help minimize risk and keep everyone safe, StainlessSwim strongly advises you to follow, at a minimum, the safety measures provided below.
For more on drowning prevention, visit https://www.poolsafely.gov/parents/safety-tips/.
- Maintain continuous adult supervision. Never leave children unattended around any pool.
- Enroll in swim lessons. Certified Infant Swim Resource (ISR) or equivalent programs teach critical self-rescue skills, but do not replace vigilant supervision.
- Use door and gate alarms. Audible alarms or chimes on any openings to the pool area alert you immediately if someone enters.
- Add pool motion sensors. Water-activated alarms detect unexpected movement and notify you at once.
- Require U.S. Coast Guard-approved PFDs. Life jackets offer real protection; avoid flotation aids (e.g., puddle jumpers) that give a false sense of security.
- Clear the pool of toys and floats when not in use to avoid attracting unsupervised swimmers.
- Never swim near suction fittings, and do not operate the pump if any cover or strainer is loose, broken, or missing.
General Pool Safety
- NO DIVING! Diving or even jumping into shallow depths can cause serious injury or death. Post clear depth markings and warnings (“No Diving! NO Jumping!” or “Shallow Water!”) and emergency contact instructions.
- Keep glass away from the pool area.
- Do not climb or sit on tank edges. Never alter or drill tank structure.
- All electrical equipment must be installed per applicable codes and be pool‐rated. Keep electrical devices and cords away from water and out of reach.
- Ensure GFCI-protected power. All electrical equipment (pumps, lights, heaters) must be plugged into Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter outlets.
- Ensure stable installation. Your tank pool must sit on a level, load-bearing surface. Do not place the pool on an unsupported elevated structure without engineering.
- Drain or secure your pool during storms, freezing conditions, or high winds.
- Always fill water to the minimum line before starting any equipment.
- Comply with the Texas State’s and your local municipality’s pool safety requirements (provided below).
Maintenance & Water Quality
Proper sanitation and circulation help to prevent bacterial growth, algae, and mosquito breeding. Stagnant or contaminated water may cause illness. In order to avoid this, you must, at a minimum:
- Clean your pool regularly.
- Test and treat water chemistry regularly (pH, sanitizer levels, etc.).
- Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for filter and pump upkeep.
- Schedule periodic professional inspections to verify liner integrity, fittings, and safety devices
State of Texas Pool Barrier and Enclosure Requirements
The State of Texas imposes certain barrier and enclosure requirements on owners of a residential pool (Tex. Health & Safety Code, Chapter 757). Please read the regulations linked to below. It is your responsibility to adhere to these requirements at all times.
- Outdoor pools must be enclosed by a barrier (pool yard enclosure) at least 48 inches (4 ft) high, as measured from the ground on the side away from the pool.
- Openings under the enclosure barrier must not permit passage of a 4-inch diameter sphere.
- If the barrier uses vertical/horizontal members, decorative cutouts, or horizontal rails, they must not create climbable features or openings exceeding prescribed dimensions (for example, decorative openings must be ≤ 1 ¾ inches).
- Chain‐link fencing is prohibited for new pool yard enclosures post-Jan 1, 1994.
- Gates in the barrier must:
- be self‐closing and self‐latching;
- open outward (away from the pool yard);
- have latch hardware that is lockable (padlock, key, card, combination); and
- have the latch installed at least 60 inches above ground in most cases, unless specific narrow opening exceptions apply.
- Doors or windows opening into the pool yard (from a building) must comply with pool enclosure rules, and door hardware must include mechanisms preventing unintentional access to the pool (for example, automatic latches).
Local Pool Safety Requirements
Some Texas municipalities impose additional requirements on residential pool owners. Below are provided only as examples of requirements that could apply to you. It is your responsibility to read, understand, and comply with any local requirements that apply to you.
- Doors, gates and windows that provide pool access may be equipped with an alarm (water‐hazard entrance alarm) meeting UL 2017 standards.
- Home doors opening directly to the pool may need keyless bolting devices installed at least 36 inches above floor level.
